Google is reportedly testing an AI tool, codenamed "Genesis", designed to write news articles.
The tool is being pitched to major publications like The New York Times, The Washington Post, and News Corp.
Google envisions Genesis as a personal assistant for journalists, automating some tasks to free up time for others, and promoting it as a form of "responsible technology".
However, some executives have expressed concerns about the tool, noting that it seems to disregard the effort that goes into producing accurate news stories.
Google insists that these tools are not intended to replace journalists but to enhance their work and productivity.
This development comes as several news organizations are exploring how AI could be responsibly used in their newsrooms.
However, the potential for AI-generated articles to spread misinformation if not fact-checked or thoroughly edited is a cause for concern.
OpenAI is introducing custom instructions for ChatGPT, allowing users to tailor the AI's responses to better meet their needs.
This feature, currently in beta for Plus plan users and soon to be available for all users, allows users to set preferences or requirements that ChatGPT will consider when generating responses.
This means users won't have to repeat their preferences or information in every conversation.
For instance, a teacher can specify they're teaching 3rd grade science, and the model will remember this in future interactions.
The feature also extends to plugins, improving user experience by sharing relevant information with the plugins in use.
Go into Profile Settings > Beta Features > Enable ‘Custom Instructions’.
However, OpenAI cautions that during the beta period, ChatGPT may not always interpret custom instructions perfectly.
Safety measures have been adapted to account for the new ways users can instruct the model, and privacy concerns are addressed with options for users to control how their data is used.
